Roberto Daniele
Research Track Speaker
Roberto Daniele is a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism with the Department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism, Business School, Oxford Brookes University.
Roberto’s teaching, research and consultancy interests focus on 3 mayor themes;
• The applications of ICT in tourism with a particular emphasis on its impacts on business strategy, marketing, distribution channels and market structures;
• Marketing of destinations with particular regards to the creation of networks of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) and the role of Destination Marketing Systems in destination promotion
• Entrepreneurship with particular emphasis on “internet entrepreneurs” and venture philanthropy;
His industrial experience includes managerial roles in both the Italian and Australian tourism industries where he worked as a market analyst for the Italian Federation of Travel Agents in Milan and as a marketing and business development manager for a major tourist attraction in Melbourne.
Roberto was involved in the task force that developed Australia’s first National Online Tourism Strategy and also developed an an eTourism Education and Training Strategy for Tourism Victoria (Australia). In conjunction with Unisys and Telstra Multimedia he organised the first Australian symposium on Electronic Commerce & Tourism.
He is a regular presenter at the ENTER conference on Information and Communication Technologies in Tourism and is often invited as a guest speaker on eTourism topics.
Roberto’s current research and PhD work focuses on the business models and determinants of competitive advantage for travel eMediaries. As part of this research Roberto has been working closely with some of the largest online travel intermediaries in Europe including Lastminute.com, TUI/Thomson, Cheapflights.com, Bookings.com (formerly Active Hotels) and Octopus Travel.
Roberto is Founding President of IFITT Australia (International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism) a regional Chapter of IFITT.
