Wolfram Höpken is director of the eTourism Competence Center Austria (ECCA). In this position he is responsible for IT-oriented research and development projects in the area of eTourism. The most important research areas of the ECCA are intelligent trip planning and recommendation systems, customisation, mobile services, semantic web & interoperability, web mining & data warehousing and decision support systems. Prior to this position Wolfram Höpken has been working for over ten years for Amadeus Global Travel Distribution c/o Amadeus Germany as a software engineer, technology consultant and project manager.
Wolfram Höpken studied computer science at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and received his Ph.D from the University of Darmstadt. His main research areas are intelligent trip planning and recommendation systems, semantic web & interoperability and the harmonisation of electronic markets in the field of tourism. He has funded the IFITT RMSIG, a special interest group within IFITT (International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism) for elaborating a reference model for electronic tourism markets. He is responsible for managing the process of building a tourism ontology within the HarmoNet initiative (network for harmonising the data exchange within the tourism domain). Wolfram Höpken is a regular speaker on conferences in the tourism domain. He is vice president and commercial director of IFITT as well as president of HarmoNet.
