Main duty of the Greek chapter, in addition to the basic IFITT values, is to create a discusion forum regarding the interactions between different vendors of the tourism industry in the country. The aim of this forum is to analyse and investigate in what way the new technologies and online communication channels could be used in order to add competitive advantage to the greek travel product, based on international case studies and best practises.
IFITT (International Federation for IT in Travel and Tourism), announces the establishment of an official chapter in Greece.
Recognising the significance of global networking and how important it is to disseminate knowledge in the tourism industry, IFITT strategically moves to broaden its chapters. With the integration of Greece to the agency, appropriate conditions are created, for the promotion and expansion of the IFITT project into Greece.
The chapter currently has twenty members and the board following an election process consists of: Dimitrios Serifis - Nelios.com (Chairman), Spyros Georgiou - Airotel (Vice President), Stavros Kefalas - Tourix (General Secretary), Manolis Psarros - AbouTourism, Konstantinos Aivalis - TEI of Crete, Anastasia Stratigea - NTUA, Alexis Bizanidis - Gats Group of Companies. The aim of the chapter is initially to extend the membership base and then to begin a series of measures to promote interaction between institutions related to the tourism industry.
The President of IFITT Professor Dimitrios Buhalis said: "I am very happy with the establishment of the Greek chapter and I am sure that the activities of the Greek IFITT chapter will pass on international experience and knowledge within Greece, especially now that the competitiveness of both the country and the tourism businesses are essential."
IFITT is the only organisation trying to bring together the global academic community of eTourism between business and tourism vendors, with the aim of improving the tourism infrastructure by always using new information and communication technologies.
